Go Outside. Move Around.

This morning before school, even though I wasn’t ready super early, I had the foresight to put my bike on my bike rack as I was leaving. Today’s weather was supposed to be sunny and pleasant with clear skies. As you can see from looking at the picture, the forecast was accurate.
Just before leaving school this afternoon, I changed into shorts, grabbed a water and a banana, and drove to the Guana River Wildlife Management Area. It’s not the most exciting bike trail ever, but it’s pretty out there, the path is smooth and wide, and I regularly see animals when I ride there.
I have been loving working with my kids this year, but even so, teaching in the time of Covid-19 has been kicking my butt. I’ve never been so tired, and I often feel disconnected from the world after school each day. It’s work and then home, dinner, and struggle to stay awake in the evening. Going to ride after work was a nice treat, a nice change of pace, and it really upped my feel of connection.
The weather was beautiful for a ride, the light was gorgeous because I was riding in the golden hour, when everything looks good. I had a few nice minutes atop the observation/overlook tower, surveying the view of the Guana River. Then, on the way back, I saw a bobcat hanging out in the road. Once she saw me, she scooted into the brush. I’ve never seen one before, but I’ve heard that bobcats do their best not to be seen, so I don’t believe this one was expecting me on the trail when I came by!
As it stands, I was still pretty tired after dinner when I got home, but I feel so much better about how my after-school day went today, and I just felt so good to be out for a ride this afternoon. My bike is definitely going to work with me again tomorrow, I need some more of this.
